Alex McClaran is a Director & DoP who is involved in a wide variety of narrative, commercial, and music video projects. Specializing in comedy and darker-themed drama dealing with raw emotion, impactful imagery, and strategical build-ups and payoffs. Alex has been recognized by the Kansas City Internation Film Festival and the short he lensed "One Night" was given the Fred G. Andrews Emerging Filmmaker Award in 2019.

He got his start working in marketing, leading the video/content production team at J29 Creative, a small boutique marketing company. In 3 years, he helped grow the department from $300 dentist videos to $30,000 commercial series, while creating efficient workflows, long-lasting relationships, and a trustworthy production team.

During his time at J29, he Produced, Directed, Lensed, and Edited a 10 part commercial series for Constellation Connect, which showcases a modern family setting up their new smart home security system, and how it seamlessly integrates and enhances their lives.

Alex shot the award-winning short film "one night", as well as the indie feature "Those of us left behind" by David Walter & Walter bros pictures.

Alex lensed the short series "Elevator Money", Esai Saenz's narrative directorial debut. A gritty realistic-toned comedy where a young pizza delivery driver stumbles across a bag of money from a group of slightly incompetent professional criminals.

Alex has also both directed and shot many music videos ranging from Metal to Hip-hop, including artists such as Jehry Robinson from Strange Music, Young Medicine from FiXT Neon, and Broderick Jones a deep runner in "America Song Contest". 


Alex is a founder of currents.media as well as a director for motion house studio.
